Lo & behold! After weeks of dabbling in C++ & Qt and using Windows as my primary dev environment (*ahem*), StreetSmart for Nokia is alive! It currently supports Symbian^3 devices only, and features the following subset of the functionality available on the iOS & Android versions:

  • Ability to share traffic information in Metro Manila by tagging color-coded pins on a map and leaving comments;
  • Access to up-to-date traffic information in the metro shared by fellow StreetSmart users;
  • Access to MMDA, Police, Fire, Taxi and other emergency hotlines.
Feel free to send your comments & suggestions through the StreetSmart site or through Twitter. Now, Nokia users can “Beat the Traffic” as well 😉

Ho-hum, I know it’s been a while since my last post. First off, here’s a preview of the E61i from AAS. Even though the E90 has more features, I’m still partial to the “Blackberry” form factor of the E61. Go go Nokia! Also, here’s an article – with a funny picture – about enemies of the iPhone. As I discussed in one of my first posts, the iPhone lacks a lot of features even if it were released today. Still, I can’t help but wonder if & when Apple will sue Meizu for their, uuuh, iClone.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I’ve been using Vista RC1 for a while now. Although Vista is not perfect, it has served me well; it helps that it’s a free beta copy so I guess that’s why I’m not complaining. Still, based on these articles (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, whew!), Vista seems to have its fair share of detractors. Their common recommendation is to stick to XP or switch to Mac. When my Vista RC1 expires in June, I still haven’t decided what I’ll do. To be honest, I don’t want to switch back to XP since I would miss the cool little things in Vista. Mac? Not an option, since I’d rather spend $199 for Vista Business Upgrade then junk my laptop and buy a new one for $1.5K. Besides, how the hell will I use PLDT Weroam on a Macbook? Ubuntu is very tempting, but I guess I’ll cross the bridge when I get there..

Phones Galore + Cool Collaborations

Here’s a short update for the week. First, it seems that a lot of cool phones are being announced this week. Check this out for the top 10 phones from 3GSM as per Gizmodo. Among the phones featured, the Nokia 6110 Navigator is the one that yanks my chain, though the Nokia N77 and Samsung SGH-F520 also pique my interest. Still, as a very happy E61 user, the new E-series phones rock my world the most. This article from E-Series nicely summarizes the cool features of the E90, E61i & E65. Of the three new phones, I’m partial to the E61i (no surprise), though the changes that Nokia implemented aren’t enough to entice me to upgrade.

Still, the E90 is the undisputed top-of-the-line E-series phone, since it has a similar feature set to the N95. Given a choice, I might go with the E90 since it has a QWERTY keyboard, though based on experiences with my dad’s 9500, I prefer the E61’s keyboard. This nice article on the E90 from AAS should be enough to convince fans that Nokia made the right decision to drop S80 in favor of S60. So, I guess my new dream smartphone is the Nokia E90. Yikes! 😯

N95 on Video!

Wow, it’s finally here – the first video review of Nokia’s super smartphone. Click here to see a short video review of the N95. It runs for about 7.5 minutes, and its definitely a must-see for peeps who can’t get enough of this wonderful device. Rafe Blandford of All About Symbian is really one lucky tech adok 😉

It’s been a sloooow week for yours truly in the blogosphere. I’ve been catching up on my uber-favorite animated series, Naruto – I can’t wait for February 15 when the so-called fillers will finally give way to Shipudden. I know that many Naruto fans will just tell me to read the manga instead, but it always gives me a kick seeing the hyperactive ninja “in the flesh” as he unleashes his mighty army of Kage Bunshin on hapless foes. Dattebayo!

Naruto on Wiki

Moving on, here’s a link to an article on All About Symbian about first impressions of Nokia’s N95. I envy Rafe Blandford since he has his hands on an actual N95 which, IMHO, is the ultimate smartphone available today. I still prefer my E61’s QWERTY keypad but I can’t help but want HSDPA, GPS and S60 3rd Ed Feature Pack 1. Actually, the first two features aren’t too important – just cool – but FP1 is definitely a must-have. I hope that Nokia will send an FP1-enabled firmware upgrade for E61 owners within the next few months. Please Nokia, please 😀
